Best Posting Times on Social Media for 2019

To ensure your content maximises engagement and is seen by as many people as possible, you should ensure your content is being posted at the best times.

Recent data from Sprout Social of 25,000-plus Sprout customers show when consumers were most and least engaged on social media across four major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn). These insights were used to gain an idea of the best times to post on each social network, based on the level of engagement.

Facebook

Facebook is the most populated social media platform by far with over two billion active users. In addition to ensuring your content is meaningful for your audience, you’ll best drive genuine engagement by posting at the times when users are most active on the platform.

Here are the key data points for Facebook:

  • Best time to post = Wednesday 11AM – 1PM
  • Best day to post = Wednesday
  • Safest time to post on weekdays = 9AM – 3PM
  • Worst day to post = Sunday has the least amount of engagement for Facebook during the week
  • Worst time to post = Before 7AM and After 5PM

As shown by this data, the best times to post are in the middle of the week from morning to mid-afternoon. Peak times of engagement are during lunch breaks when people are scrolling their feeds.

Instagram

Instagram is a rising platform that has recently grown to one billion monthly active users. The platform has debuted a number of new features such as Stories and Instagram TV, that allow brands to create engaging video content.

Here are the stats for Instagram:

  • Best time to post = Wednesday 11AM and Friday 10-11AM
  • Best day to post = Wednesday
  • Safest time to post on weekdays = Tuesday – Friday, 10AM – 3PM
  • Worst day to post = Sunday has the least amount of engagement for Facebook during the week
  • Worst time to post = 11PM – 3AM

Instagram engagement is highest mid-day and mid-week similar to other social media platforms.

Twitter

Twitter is a great platform for brands to directly communicate with consumers and manager customer care. It’s important to tweet at the best times because posting at off-peak hours could potentially reduce your engagement.

Keep these stats in mind when tweeting:

  • Best time to post = Wednesday 9AM and Friday 9AM
  • Best day to post = Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Safest time to post on weekdays = Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4PM
  • Worst day to post = Sunday has the least amount of engagement for Facebook during the week
  • Worst time to post = Every day from 10pm – 4AM

Twitter’s engagement peaks a bit earlier in the morning and carry into the lunch hour. Like other social media channels, mid-week are the top days to post on Twitter, and engagement drops off on the weekends.

LinkedIn

Sprout Social more niche audience tend to generate more leads, especially for B2B marketing. Therefore, it’s important to not ignore its marketing power.

Here’s our findings on LinkedIn:

  • Best time to post = Wednesday 9-10AM and 12PM
  • Best day to post = Wednesday
  • Safest time to post on weekdays = Tuesday – Friday, from 8AM – 2PM
  • Worst day to post = Sunday has the least amount of engagement for Facebook during the week
  • Worst time to post = Every day from 9PM – 3AM

Since LinkedIn targets a more specific audience of leaders and job seekers, it’s no surprise that engagement is much more concentrated around workdays.
